My current computer has a cable modem for internet access. When I get my new computer soon, do I just have to connect the modem to my new computer? I'm not very computer savy, so I hope there isn't any configuring or downloading involved?
What is involved in this type of situation?

all that should be necessary is to unplug the cable modem for around 30 sec, then hook the pc up to the modem, then turn the plug the modem back in wait for it to sync up usually about 30 seconds to a minute, then turn the pc on and you should be good to go, if you just hook a new pc in to the modem without unplugging the modem you will have problems that is the key step is to reboot the modem before you connect another pc. Also note- if you have a modem with a battery back up, such as one for VoIP make sure to take the battery out when you unplug the modem

Yes, just connect your new computer to your cable modem.

If you would like both to have internet connection, purchase a router or a switch, otherwise you dont have to do anything but plug your old cable modem to your new computer.

Contact your Internet Service Provider. There will probably be some configuration to be done but your ISP should be able to help you there.
