Well......it depents what kind of fish Oscar is....and what is its age.....
Some tropical fish are Hermafrodite means that they have both male and female organs.....and up to a certain age they live as males and later they change sex to reproduce.

here there is a site that you could get more info.

http://www.viviparos.com/Biologia/reprodbasic.htm

also you can use your search machine..... Use "Fish Hermafroditism"..... or "Fish reproduction"

It is almost impossible to tell the difference between the sexes in oscars. The best way to get a pair, if that is what you want, is to buy 6-8 of them when they are small, 3-4 inches, and raise them to gether. You will need at least a 55 gallon tank until they get to be about 8 inches and then probably a 125 if you plan to keep them all. They will pair off naturally and you will probably end up with 2 or even 3 pairs (valuable). To spawn a pair, you will need at least a 75-100 gallon tank. The bigger the better.

There is a method called "venting" that some people claim to be able to tell the sexes. It requires netting the fish, holding it upside down in your hands and examining the genital openings of the fish. In mature fish (12-15") it is said that the male's opening is more rounded than the female's. Hers is said to look kind of like a cat's eye.

I have heard of two females laying eggs and tending them until they fungused (not fertilized, of course), so I guess sometimes even the oscars can't tell.....

Sorry, but you will need WAY bigger than 125 gallon tank if you are planning to keep ALL THE OSCARS. Each oscar needs at least a 55 gallon tank, so therefore, you can basically only keep two in a 125 gallon when they are bigger. But yeah I do agree with him, when he said to buy 6 and see which two pair up.
