I have a friend that chews foam and she is pretty normal in every way: is pretty, has a good job, getting married soon but she chews foam! I know little kids do this sometimes but why would a grown up do this and can it affect her health in anyway (she claims it's harmless), most imprtantly how do we get her of it?

It's known as Pica. Where people eat nonfood items. I've seen people on TV who eat glass, metal, dirt... The list goes on.

I used to eat paper when I was younger, so did my brother. It's harmless so long as people don't eat something that might harm them. AKA, glass or even hair.

Just explain that you're worried about her and the possible health effects it might have. It might be enough to make her slow down or stop doing it. Try to be supportive, it's hard for people to know exactly why they do it.
