Mental illness can be hereditory. And as we all know, many people who kill themselves suffer from some type of mental illness, whether that be something severe like schizophrenia or "mild" such as depression.

If you EVER begin to feel this way, seek professional help immediately. Although I sense that there has been (more than one) suicide in your close family and that is why you ask the question, as oppossed to actually feeling suicidal yourself.

Mental illness seems to run in families, but I don't think any specialist is willing to say that anything is hereditary. They may say that the possibility is greater. What they are willing to say is the chance of a mental illness is more probable in an effected family. However, I don't think experts are willing to say that specific illnesses are passed, or actions, specifically speaking here in the case of suicides.

Depressive genes ARE hereditary. It depends on how severe the depression is.

If your Dad and your Grampa committed suicide, in all likelihood you're depressed too. How depressed you are determines whether or not you follow the same way out of your misery.

Their does seem to be a link. If you look at the family history of someone who committed suicide, someone else in that family has also done it.

To commit suicide is not herediatary. A comes to the extreme end of suicide when he finds himself absolutely helpless to face the realties of life. These realities of life are different from other kith and kins. It is therefore obvious that to commit suicide is not herediatary.
