It is important that whatever you do to your registry, that you back it up first.especially if you have been tweaking on it and messed it up. That way you can restore it back without having to remember everything that you did. the best free program on the market to me and I have tried about all of them, is CCLEANER,the first C stands for crap,as this gets rid of all of it in your computer safely and very, very fast!! Go to this link:

http://ccleaner.com

And download it from the" alternate" site, not file hippo.
this will clean all your computer junk and when you run the "issues" part of it, it will do the same for your registry(including, proper backup as well) your computer will run noticeably faster and have more space, your computer and you will be pleased!!!
run the cleaner once a week and you should never have problems. And best of all, IT'S FREE and being a all inclusive single program, their will never be conflicts between programs.

Run regclean. Its available on the net. And get the version for your OS.
Back up your Registry before running regclean as a precaution, then regclean will fix most things...

I would stick to a program to clean it *like the other's have suggested :)* the registry is very daunting...even to a techie...if running the regCleaner program doesn't speed up your system you might have an addware/spyware on your system...
