Hey Dave,
I don't know where you can buy it but(I hate to admit this) in the 70's there was an old abandoned hospital in our town. They had left many tanks of nitrous in the surgical unit. Some of the guys used to go and "borrow"(makes me feel better than to say steal) some of them and bring them to parties. I did it a little bit until one night one of my friends, Lake, was doing it alot and all of a sudden he started coughing up ice looking crystals. We all laughed at first then we had to call the ambulance for him. Apparently the concentration at the bottom of the canister was very great and he sort of froze his lungs up. He was OK but I split quick after the ambulance got there; if my daddy had found out what I was doing I wouldn't have been able to sit down for a week. Ever been spanked by and ex-marine(I hope you say no to that one). It's an experience you try to avoid at all cost. Believe me when I tell you that when my Daddy used to say "This is going to hurt me more than you" he was NOT telling the truth.
My Uncle was my dentist and once when he left me alone in the chair I reached over and "torked" the nitrous up. When he came back in I was so high that I thought he only had on his smock, black argyle socks and shoes. I started laughing uncontrolably and he realized what I had done. He was really mad at me and even though I am 48 now he still won't leave me alone in the dentist chair. Nitrous is fun, don't know where you can get it but be careful with it if you find some.

Well you can get small amounts of it at your local supermarket. Go and take a look at the whipcream cans, and look on the can below the ingredients and it should say "charged with nitrous oxide".
This is what another guy says...and I agree!
Ok,, I'm going to speak from personal experience and scientific reasoning:
Buy whip cream cans just to try it out. Any cheap kind will do... or redi whip, whatever. As a point of interest, read the can and it will say "Propellant: Nitrous Oxide"
Now, I disagree with all of you that you should let the can "cool." I believe you mean let it settle. When you shake the can, it makes the N2O dissolve into the cream, therefore, it won't be avaliable for inhalation.
Now, I disagree with all of you that you should let the can "cool" again. If the can is warm, less of the N2O will be dissolved (cool gasses dissolve more easily in liquids), and therefore, more will be avaliable for inhalation.
Now, with a whip cream can, you hold it so the spout is perfectly upright. It won't come out frigid because it isn't as pressurized as a 'whippet.' Inhale directly off the plastic spout.
Go for it, I consider it a blast and for a long time was my Drug of Choice. Mind you, if you don't think it's working, there is a technique, you do have to get a lungful of just N2O. That is, exhale all air from your lungs, then take the hit off the can, then hold it in, you'll feel a buzz, exhale, don't hold your breath for too long (more than 20-30 seconds).
