Chlorophyll, NOT chloroform (an anaesthetic)

Chlorophyll is a green photosynthetic pigment found in most plants, algae, and cyanobacteria. Its name is derived from ancient Greek: chloros = green and phyllon = leaf. Chlorophyll absorbs most strongly in the blue and red but poorly in the green portions of the electromagnetic spectrum, hence the green color of chlorophyll-containing tissues like plant leaves.

Grass, like many plants, contain chlorophyll. This is a special pigment that facilitates photosynthesis. As chlorophyll is green, the plants are seen to be green as well. Some plants have different coloured pigments so you may see some plants with red, yellow or variegated colouring.

Chloroform on the other hand, is totally different from chlorophyll ^_^

The pigment in grass is called cholorophyll. It absorbs red and blue light in the visible spectrum and reflects green light back to the human eye (hence it appears green). Other plant pigments reflect and absorb at different light wavelengths and so appear different colours.
The plant uses the energy absorbed (including light inthe non- visible part of the spectrum) in the process of photosynthesis, which generates "food" for the plant.

chlorophyll is the green pigment in grass & other green leaves,in the presence of sunlight a chemical process called photosynthesis occurs, this provides nutrition to the plant ,

Grass is green because it is envious of trees which are much taller and don't get stepped on like grass does. Trees don't get mowed every week in the summertime and sprayed with Weed-be-gone. Damn them trees!

They're chlorophylls (chloroform is an anaesthetic gas which'll knock you out!) which soak up the sun's energy to make food, with the help of the mitochondria (specially adapted symbiotic bacteria inside the cells that make them green).

the grass is green because the color green represents growth and as you can see that the grass grows upwards representing that its growing and hence its color is green.

its green also because there a compound in each plant material which we commonly know as chlorophyl whose color is generally dark green and hence all plants and tree leaves have the color green.

Ah i think it's chloroform, a product of photosynthesis
