It depends how strong and fast they are. If they are lazt not much, if they are your slave and you whip them you will get a lot done.

Hi. A good bricklayer can lay between 500 and 1000 bricks a day. Anything less, get yourself another bricklayer. (Nearer to a 1000).

It all depends on how long the straight run is between corners, On a long run with no windows or returns a good brickie will lay 800 to 1000 average brickie 500 to 600. If its a short run less than say 25 bricks to a coarse between returns, with windows etc could be around half the amount. With all this rain youll be lucky to get any laid, my brickies have worked about 1 day in 5 due to the weather over the last three weeks. What ever you do dont start counting a brickies bricks and never ever stick a level against their brickwork to check it, ive seen a contracts manager hit stonecold into a trench after questioning a brickies ability on the trowel very funny (not for the contracts manager with a broken nose and trying to find new brickies at short notice)

Shame on all of the stupid answers so far. People are SO LAZY.
Hello- there is such a thing as AVERAGES folks, with all factors included.

The one thing I would like to add is that a bricklayer can buy a brickie which is a platic device to assist in the laying of bricks and I think he can then work alone. I bought one but havent used it yet. I still dont know how to start/lay a base yet. Anyway, here is the link

Brick laying is hard, heavy work....If you have a bricklayer...please don't count the bricks...If he had references and you see him working...appreciate it..you start counting bricks you will end up with a job 1/2 done. Count your pennies with the drywall guy.

He can't work alone. So, a bricklayer plus a helper together can lay about 10 m2 per day, if the mortar is made manually.

Wouldn't that be painful!

It would depend on a number of factors:
How fit the bricklayer is
How close are the bricks
How steady the supply of mortar
How fast the brickie works
Is there a break for lunch
Tea breaks
What time he/she starts work
Ditto finishing
