To maintain peace, you said? Cerainly not by waging war. War is Peace is an Orwelian concept. However, if one regards that history repeats itself, one should notice the rise and fall of several Empires in the last 3000 years. When the US declines and falls there will be another power to take its place. China's recent rapid ascention appears to indicate that it will be the next superpower.
One can only hope that the Chinese will be more prudent in using their power for the benefit of mankind than the Americans or the English or the Spanish have been.

Were more like an "Equalizer". Its not that we "bully" other country's around, its just that if someone somewhere crosses the line we help equalize the problem. Hopefully with words first and if push comes to shove well were not the best choice to push. We do it to help prevent WW3. Small country's fight with each other all the time we don't really have much to do with it. For the most part we stay to ourselves.
I'm gonna leave it at this...
If someone big was picking on someone and you see that it could lead to a bigger fight or something bad and you have the ability to stop that big person (hopefully with words first) wouldn't you?

tell me what would happen if the U.S. just sat back and let the rest of the world do their own thing. We would be called isolationists and everyone would be looking to the U.S. to step in and help. Look at Africa for example. Atrocities are happening all over the continent and if we don't step in and help, the rest of the world condemns us. If we do intervene, we are condemned for not minding our own business. Every country wants money from us when there is a problem, but no one wants the advice that comes along with it.

Then step up and police your own section of the world. I also don't believe in giving aid to foreign countries. We should take care of our country and debts first!
