hi, from my personal experience, i breastfed my son for 7 months and got my first period on the 8th month, so at a guess if you are nursing i would say when you stop you should get your period back the following month. Dont wish them back hun!!!

This is a bit of a "how long's a piece of string" question! It is different for different people. If you are solely breastfeeding this can delay the onset of your periods. I found with both my children that when I dropped off their breast feeds it kick started the periods. My first was around five months and my second was around three. Enjoy it while it lasts!
Don't forget though that you can still get pregnant even though your periods haven't yet started so take extra precautions if you don't want another baby before your little one is one years old!
Hope the links below are useful.

If you are breastfeeding it can take up to 6 months before you get you period. When you breastfeed on a regular schedule, like every 2 to 4 hours, it keeps you from ovulating. My son is 4 months and I still haven't had one. When I breastfed my daughter I didn't have one for very close to 6 months.
If you formula feed, I'm not real sure,my friend said that she bled for 2 weeks after having her baby and resumed her normal periods about 4 weeks after that.

If you are breastfeeding, especially when using the 'on-demand' method, your periods may not come back until you stop. This is because your body is still releasing the hormone that stops periods whilst you breastfeed. My wife took a year to resume her periods and they only came back when she cut down on the breast feeding. She was extremely pleased to go nearly 2 years without a period!
Bizarrely enough, it is still possible (but much more unlikely) to get pregnant even though your periods haven't returned. Not quite sure how that works, but it happens!

With my first daughter, I had a period when she was 15 weeks old. With my second, it was at 19 weeks. Sometimes being pregnant whacks your hormones out so much that it takes a while to get back into the swing of things. Also, if you are breastfeeding, that can make your periods non-existent (you CAN still get pregnant, though!), or very very light and short.
If you are really worried, you may want to ask your OB/GYN what's up.

It all depends on your body. Breastfeeding is also a factor. After My daughter was born I had my first menses when she was about 6-7 weeks old. I bled for the usual 3-4 weeks post giving birth and then when I went in for my 6 week postpartum checkup I was already having my first menses.

Are you breast feeding? I breast fed all three of my children, its great because I didn't have a period until I stopped at six months. Can be a couple of months if bottle feeding because all your hormones need to get back to normal. Just enjoy not having to deal with the pain that is the monthly cycle. Good luck, try not to worry about these things at it will all work its self out. Just concentrate on enjoying that little bundle, they grow up very quick.

If you are breastfeeding then it might be many more weeks or even months yet. If bottle feeding then it could be any time now.
Be aware too, that it is possible to ovulate but not have a period so unless you want to get pregnant so soon, be careful!

Each woman is different so just wait and they will return.
Because I was breastfeeding I didnt get my period for 18 months after each child. My friend got hers after 2 months.

Don't worry ; I used to take up to 5 months before I had mone (and i had 4 children). do't forget to mak your husband/partner use a condom if you have sex though will you as you can still get pregnant. Don't forget you ovulate BEFORE you have that first period . (You would be surprised how many people do.)
