Does the country where my website is hosted effect my search engine results on certain search engines?

For example, my website is hosted with a company in India and on google.co.in I get excellent search results for my keywords but this is not the case on google.co.uk

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Well I imagine that search result popularity is based around the country you're searching from. If you're searching for something related to india you will have better results on Google India.

I just went to Baidu (primary Chinese search engine) and entered the English word, "Nambia" and it did indeed come up with plenty of hits. I didn't try putting in the characters for the country as I don't have time to look them up right now. Good luck!

I believe that is correct. Especially, if your web site contains different language. To have a better ranking in google in UK or US, you'd better user UTF-8 and English as primary setting.

However, the most efficient way to get higher ranking is to follow the Google's search engine guide line.
