Obvioulsy there aren't any more stars there than anywhere else. The stars are many millions of miles fron earth.

But you can see more stars from the desert because there is less light pollution than in cities

Away from the city's glow two things happen. Your eyes get adjusted to the dark and the light pollution which normally masks the stars isn't there.

If you want a big surprise then look through 7*50 naval binoculars. You'll see so many more stars.

Mainly because there is less pollution. If you want, you could take infrared goggles and wear them let's say in NY, you'll saw many more stars. The stars are present everywhere a lot but you could only see them in less polluted areas.
