I could understand your concerns, something has to be done to save the historical places.

I am an Indian but currently working in srilanka, eventhough srilanka is a tiny island country, very much importance is given for historical places and they are well maintained to attract tourists.

Our indian historical sites are much more vast and we are supposed to protect them by giving utmost importance and government is supposed to take initiatives than anybody else.

Like the srilankan govt which is making money out of historical sites through tourism, we also should take some initiatives to encourage tourism (to attract foreigners) and to invest the money on proper maintenance.

But these days, no body bothers about Historical sites as you told and IT age is conquering all the parts and given this, I foresee that historical monuments will be ruined unless government is taking some action on the maintenance part of it.

I don't think you'll be left without your heritage, but unless the people take it upon themselves to preserve your monuments, they could go the way of the Acropolis, or the Parthenon, and fall into ruin. Hope this doesn't happen, there are many wonderful sites in India, and should be preserved. ( don't rely only on the government, they can change over a short period of time, but cultures live as long as their people remember).

The historical monuments must be preserved which are of importance and relevant. Which are not relevant should be utilised for Govt. office purposes by re-building new structure on the same. The historical monuments should be open to the public at cheaper rates so that maximum people come and see and the revenue is collected accordingly.
