Sorry to others. Question is limited to U.S. Residents. Just curious. Also, at a border they ask your country and you have to say United States so why are we called Americans. Just an over tired brain working at useless thoughts.

If they ask my nationality i would say my country of origin (Lebanon) cause i still have my Lebanese passport, I'm only a resident of the United States so far.
When i get my citizenship i would say American. But usually when people pick up on the little accent that i have when i speak they would ask where are you originally from??? It's not only that we don't wanna let go of our origins but some people just won't let you forget that you're not born American. You know?

Nationality is the country/continent where you were born. Heritage is where your ancestors were born. This is the United States of America but I don't know why you have to say U.S. at the border except that the continent also includes Mexico and Canada,etc..

I state my nationality - the continent where my ancestors where born - I don't know which country - At border crossings we don't say America because America is a continent not a country

I think that all U.S. Citizens born in America are trully Native Americans, there is no doubt about that. Our heritages vary so vastly, because there is not one person born in the U.S. that can claim they are of a pure race i.e. Africa, German, Irish, etc... we are all mixed up.
