Is it bad that I lose all respect for people who smoke?

My dad smokes and I have no respect for him. My friends started smoking I don't want to be around them anymore.

Am i over reacting?

Well if you have no respect for yourself by inhailing thousands of chemicals into your body, then why should I have any respect for you? .....hipocrite!

I don't make a big deal about it, but when my Dad started smoking again we wern't so close anymore. Everyone has the right to smoke aslong as they know the dangers of what it's doing and they don't harm others. I just don't like it and I see it as a waste of time and money

Well dear girl, I started smoking back before it was declared to be so dangerous to your health. I happen to enjoy it. Contrary to what many people say, the government released a study that said second hand smoke only affects approximately 1/12 of 1% of people who contact it. You don't like it? It's your right not to smoke. I do like it. So I will. If that bothers you, you have a problem. I suggest you adapt and overcome your problem, not make problems for others.

Do they smoke around you? I don't like people smoking around me since it's so bad to inhale second-hand smoke, but whatever they do in their own time and some place where it doesn't harm anyone, that should be their own business, I think you're overreacting if you can't handle that.

I've lots of smoking friends but as long as they're willing to sit in the none-smoking section with me I don't mind. I draw the line at breathing their smoke though.

what you say is true. and the smokers are so stubborn but have you ever tried compassion? They are victims of their own mental habit patterns. My mother smokes but she is decent enough to stay away when she does.

wouldn't it be more constructive if instead of "losing respect" for them, you could try to help people that want that help?

i used to smoke, and i've been quit for almost two years now. i don't have less respect for people that smoke - but i do have more respect for people that have quit
