several theories proposed to explain this one.
Big Bang theory states that it started around 13 billion years ago. the theory doesn't try to explain what was or might had been there before the universe was created and before the big bang occured.
Steady state theory is a favorite by many and it states that the universe has infinite age because it expands by continuously creating new matters.
Static universe was Einstein's favorite until Hubble discovered the relationship between redshift and something to do with distance (i can't quite remember). the theory states that the universe has infinite age because, as the name implies, the universe is not expanding or contracting.

Depends. In our terms of time (time in our universe is based on the decay of a atom which is known to us more better as the atomic clock, once it was measured on how fast light traveled in a vavume tube in one second I forgot the medium before that but there was one more excluding the religious notions of time) 13-15 billion years old. In terms of trying to find the beginning outside our universe is a bit harder because if time does exist in our universe it doesn't say time is existant in the vacum of space from which science (and religion as well) says we came from. As such using prioi we can state 2 conclusions on the existance of the universe from an outside perspective (although pointless because it can never be proven) our universe has always existed and will always exist such as a egg in space that is construceted in a way that time passes internally but not externally (hard to imagine I know) or that the universe does not exist and that it never did. As such the whole existentialism argument comes out and all logic has finished going out the window. So in my opinion as well as nusters pick any date because time is based upon your own perception. As for the end of the universe the best guess based on atomic clock perception is in about 30 billion years so you got some time left.

When God Created it.....
Scientists speculate about this, but even now they seem to discredit the Big Bang Theory and Evolution....
Here is why: In physics, objects with energy collide or interact with other objects to dispel some of the energy that they have....lets say you throw a ball and your friend catches is. Your friend, depending on how hard you threw it, will feel that ball in her hands by the sting and how red her hands are now. That ball had force from where you threw it and it transfered that force, minus the wind resistance, into her hands. Where did that force come from? From you, of course, but what of the universe?
The universe was once thought of a huge star, imploding and exploding in series. But many scientists have begun to wonder, what made this star. There had to have been a start.....
That is where evolutionists come in.....well, earth was here, so why not life evolving into something greater, even humans.....well, the same phenomenom occurs, with life as it does with physics, it just doesn't happen. Life takes the building up of protiens and, well, life reproduction, where the laws of physics say that all thing are destined for a lesser result of interaction.
In other words, the laws of physics says that my car, a pinto, will eventually be a pile of scrap someday, evolutionists believe that my pinto will evolve into a mustang convertable just because its mine. As long as it reproduces and cancels out the bad offspring.....
I tried to represent the scientific world on your question, but as you might or might not see, the provings are rather far fetched. I really believe that God created the universe and when I get to heaven then I will ask Him when He did it. The dinosaurs, the fossils, the Bible says it took Him a week to do it, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't one of our work weeks that are convenient for us, but one of His weeks, and then He rested....
I hope it helped, or if not, gave you another viewpoint of things...

The most accurate answer that science has to offer is somewhere between 11 and 13 billion years ago.
If you want to ignore the evidence that is in the earth and heavens and just figure it out from the Judeo-Christian bible then that works out to about 6 thousand years.
Why God would create a universe that looks like it's billions of years old and expect me to believe it's only thousands is something I can't figure out. I would think a loving God would want you to look upon His creation and learn from it instead of trusting the words of men who would tell you the earth is younger than it truly is.

The universe, time and space all began at the same instant, known as the Big Bang. It was about 14 billion years ago.

I'll give you the exact time the universe began.
0 years
0 hours
0 minutes
.00000000000000000000000000...00000000000001 seconds
the universe began when it did!
before the universe was a non time that can't be measured, so there is no reason to ask that question.
a better one is how old is the universe
but no one knows that one.

Most modern scientists believe 13.7 billion years ago. Saying 'God' is absurd shorthand for "I'm buggered if I know!" It really makes me laugh, if anyone is seriously ill and the doctor says," Would you like the benefit of modern science to cure you or would you like me to pray for you instead?" what is anyone in their right mind going to put their trust in? I love this quote, it is from a clergyman too, not an atheist. I think this sums it up in a nutshell :
"Studies of plant life, animal life, and human life available in centuries past were primitive, to say the least. Concepts commonplace today in the world of physics, subatomic physics, astrophysics, and cosmology would have drawn from Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, to say nothing of the author of the Book of Genesis, nothing except blank stares of incredulity."

Everyone here has a clear idea that god created this earth but we in fact do not know this for certain. Dinosaurs were here long before the idea of god was. There is no clear idea of how long earth has been here or how it became the way it is today. Scientific studies show that the earth has been here for billion and billions of years supporting life other than human life.

It was about 13 billion years ago, when it started with the big bang. What happened before that is anybodies guess.
A better question may be when did TIME begin. Don't think too hard about it though cos it will drive you insane.
