Here are a few things that you can check. Take a garden hose and clean the engine so you have a clean plate to work with. Check all of your hoses sometimes just from the hot/cold the hoses will dry out and leak. Check for loose clamps. Take the cap off of the radiator while the engine is cold and start the engine with the cap off look inside of the radiator and see if there is water moving. Also if you do the radiator thing check to see if water gets pushed out when you start the car. If water gets pushed out you have a blown head gasket. There should be a thermostat in the manifold or engine block. This is usually hooked up to the top hose on the radiator. Check to see if there is a leak and or to see if it is stuck closed or open. Also you can have the system pressure checked. Sometimes radiators develope hole. To do this you will have to take it to a shop. And the water pump should be located on the side of the engine with the belt it will have hoses running to it. With the car not running reach down around the pulley and check underneath the pump by runnind your hand from the pulley towards the engine. There should be a little hole check to see if water is coming out of it. if there is replace the pump.

The water pump on a Alero with 3.4L V6 is located in the timing cover near the top of the motor - very close to the coolant reservoir. There's a big pulley on it so you can't miss it.

This could be the source of your leak, or maybe not. You should take the car in to have a pressure test done. Make sure of course there is enough coolant in it before you go unless your going to have it towed in - which isn't a bad idea. My shop just id a head gasket job on an overheated Grand Am (basically the same car). That came to over $1,0000.

Sounds like a hose leak
