It's true in many areas of Texas, however some cities and towns in Texas have laws against it so you better know where you are in Texas before you do this.
Arizona it is legal as well. When I was first stationed in Arizona the base in briefing covered this area. We were briefed not to be surprised if when off base we saw someone carrying a handgun in plain sight.
There is a guy who lives in our subdivision who carries his old west style on his hips. My parents were alarmed by him the first time they came out to visit from California and saw him. It freaked them out, especially my Mom who was all set to call the police.

Not a myth. I can walk down the street just like Marshall Dillon.... Guns are often displayed in the back window of pick-up trucks... its concealed weapons thats illegal without a permit.
Of course there are signs posted nearly everywhere that prohibit carrying weapons on or in their premisis... concealed or otherwise.

Yeah you can walk down the street with a gun so long as the bullet it fires doesnt tear a hole in someones clothes.
Thats not acceptable behaviour, damaging other peoples designer clothes. or spoilng their skin or makeup.
Besides it should only be a gun, rocket launchers, missiles, anti aircraft guns tanks and bazookas dont count.

No. It is a concealed hand gun law. Im from Houston TX. Everyone here owns a gun or two but it has to be concealed and you have to have a license to carry it.

I'm following this up partly in response to you but also in response to my fellow Texans and all Americans. The United States Constitution clearly states that "the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed upon."
Therefore all gun laws, or laws against any type of hand held weapons, are unconstitutional. There are plenty of court cases to substatiate this arguement and I'll get to some of those later. The bottom line is that it is constitutional for you to own weapons and to carry them anywhere you go.
A corporation's rights, or another citizen's fears, that infringe upon your right to keep and bear arms are not only unconstitutional but put those persons who are infringing upon your rights in serious legal jeopardy. In fact, I can sue anyone (a police officer or a private citizen or a corporation) for infringing my right to keep and bear arms and I will always promptly do so when confronted.
I may or may not, depending on the situation, inform them that they are now going to be sued. Again, there are court cases I use as precedent to back up my position. These court cases include some in which the person(s) who violated a citizens right to keep and bear arms were held financially (civil) liable and lost much of their holdings (home, autos, estate) all because they chose to violate someone's civil right to keep and bear arms.
This includes polices officers who also lost their license to serve as a peace officer in the state they reside in.
There is a court case that is now nationwide precedent that substantiates a citizens right to keep and bear arms. It was decided in federal court and reaffirmed in federal appeals court. The Supreme Court allowed the Appelate Court's decision to stand. None of this has been covered intently through the media for reasons I will fail to explain here.
The fact is I carry a weapon with me everywhere I go. To work, to the stores I shop in, to church even. Legally, I'm not supposed to do this. Legally, "I" am not supposed to even own weapons.
But as has already been stated those laws are unconstitutional. Many people believe I am not supposed to be able to carry a firearm aboard an airplane. Many people believe many things but the truth/facts may not be included in those thoughts.
I'm ex-special forces so I welcome anyone, in fact I challenge anyone, to challenge me on this issue. I'll stand my ground and I'll win. Wanna gamble everything you've worked for your whole life for just to test me? Bring it on baby!
I know plenty of LE (or law enforcement) and depending on their attitude and how they treat me in regard to respect and dignity when dealing with me I would love to add their badge to my collection. In my sources I will list the court cases that are best to cite. All this said, whatever rights you think you are entitled to are only your rights so long as you are willing to fight for them.
Final thought: I walk down the street with an unconcealed gun from time to time. I also walk down the street with a concealed weapon all the time. I have no license for either save for the United States Constitution which is my license and supercedes all laws passed since.
Now that you know the truth that the liberal media and the owners of the Federal Reserve don't want you to know. Pass it along. Copy this and send/give it to your fellow citizens. Truth in education is dangerous to the liberal agenda.
