Does mixing regular premium gasoline with unleaded affects the engine performance of my vehicle?

I have just done that. I had my car sitting idle for over 9 months (holidaying elsewhere). Firstly was told I should empty the tank because of corrosion. There was still over half a tank full and it's expensive to just throw it out!

I asked a local garage who advised to fill the remainder of the tank with Premium as it will raise the octane level if it has gone down, which was likely although probably by only a few points.

Corrosion is a problem if your tank is metal, the new cars have plastic tanks so it isn't a problem.

Premium is more expensive than unleaded (standard) so unless you have to use Premium, stick to the unleaded.

If in doubt, ask the garage.

It all depends on the engine. If you have a high compression engine it will harm your engine. But if you have a run of the mill engine you will be alright. Premium is supposed to burn cleaner and slower than regular. That is why it is used in high compression engines. Check your manual and see what it says you have to run. But you can run premium in a lower compression engine and you can mix with regular it won't hurt the engine or fuel system.

yes. if your engine does not require it.. your wasting your $$$$$ your not getting a full burn and your making your engine work harder to burn the fuel that was not designed for your car..

unless its a high performance/ high compression its not worth wasting your $$$$

it would help to know what kinda car your doing this too.
