I used to live between Bath and Bristol (approx 7 miles away from both places) and know the areas very well. Bath is very expensive (and in my view) overrated for buying property. There are some really nice surrounding rural areas and much cheaper for buying or renting, i.e. Keynsham, Timsbury, Marksbury. Bristol is a large city and there would be some places where I would not want to buy or rent any property. You need to know where the really awful places are to live. There is plenty going on in Bristol. There are lots of night clubs, restaurants and a good shopping centre. I lived in Keynhsham for over 34 years and it is a really nice place to live, although I moved 3 years ago and came to Javea (Xabia) on Spain's Costa Blanca. I can give you lots of information on Bath and Bristol, so if you would like to email me and tell me exactly what you are looking for as regards lifestyle I will be more than happy to help you.

Cant help you with Bath although I hear it is an absolute nightmare for parking. I live just outside Bristol (Somerset) now but have lived in Bristol all my life. Bristol is to be honest becoming the next London. They are on about introducing tolls to get in and out of central Bristol which will be a total nightmare. There are more bus lanes than driving lanes which is great if you can get the bus to work every day but from Somerset to Bristol I cannot. Nightlife is bustling in central Bristol if you like bars they are in abundance. Parts to avoid are Knowle West and Hartcliffe, not that I am being prejudice or "areaist" but they tend to be trouble spots. You are best to consider moving just outside Bristol or to the Somerset areas. Not only is it more picturesque, but the houses tend to be cheaper too.

I live in Bath. I moved here about 6 months ago. I rent a flat. Its quite expensive but not outlandishly so. Schools are generally very good, crime rates are low, shopping is amazing. Bath has several cinemas, and several sports centres, including a highly renowned one at the uni. Bath also supports many lifestyles. whether u are a hippy, posh or Joe average. The main road (A4) goes through Bath, so at times traffic can be bad. however, there are separate bus lanes, so buses are good. i usually cycle tho. 1 more thing, try and get somewhere to the north or east of the city, cos all the chavs live in the south!

lived in Bristol all my life, basically the further you get away from the centre the better it gets but like other person said places like Knowle west hartcliff southmead st Paul's easton eastville st phillips basically there either full of Somalians or drunks and drug addicts, not all of course but there places i would not want to bring my children up in.they also have high crime rates.
