People say the R-sound in different ways...

In England, they say it with the teeth closed together and the sound comes from the sides of the teeth to the left and right and the front-teeth. The sound is not rolled or trilled, there is no buzzing sound, you growl like a dog, then the sound comes out as you suddenly open your teeth apart.

In France and Spain, the R-sound is rolled or trilled and comes from deep in the throat.

Some individual people can't say it very easily and pronounce it as a W.

Try to pronounce it the English way.

Try to practice on songs with lots of Rs at the beginning of words. One of these is...

'Ra Ra Rasputin' by the group 'Boney M'. Also find songs with R in the middle and end of words.

You can find the words for most songs just by typing the name of the song plus the word 'lyrics' into google. There are lots of lyrics-websites.

A good place to listen to songs is on the YouTube video-sharing site http://www.youtube.com. Just search for the name of the song or the artist.

Ra Ra Rasputin is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvDMlk3kSYg
