i love emo/punk/screamo/metal/rock music to death! i love emo clothes and hair, i just don't get depressed.

Fortunately, I am too old to have a working definition of "emo," but I think it loosely translates as "too emotional," right?
What it has become in terms of the name of a type of music, clothes and hair, I do not know. But if it requires depression, forget it. Being very emotional -- feeling things deeply -- can be important for creative people. They suffer through the depressions because it is a necessary part of being able to really feel the high points. But they don't enjoy it, don't glorify it. The endure it.
At the extreme, "emo" could mean you are glorifying bipolar disorder: manic/depression, as Jimi Hendrix would sing it. Let's face it; that's no fun at all.
Find who you are. What music you like does not need to fit neatly inside someone's label of it. What clothes and hair, same thing. Concentrate on what fits you personally, and forget categories and labels.

Personally, I don't think being "emo" is a good thing.
Nor is it something to gloat about.
You don't HAVE to be depressed to be labelled an "emo".
In my town, even if you dress slightly like it, then you're labelled this.
From what I hear about them, they're not favoured.
So I don't think it would be a good idea to want to be one.
However, being yourself is the best possible way to get on in life.
If you feel it's who you are then follow that road.
But then, trying to be "emo" is frowned upon too.
So there's no winning really.
Oh I don't know.

Emo sucks. Don't try & be it its lame as hell. & to be emo you have to be sad just because you like the music doesnt mean you are.

Stop trying to lable yourself, emo, punk and goth are hell overrated, just be yourself and just because my 40 year old mum is depressed and self harms doesn't make her 'emo' think about it. (example only lol)
