You should look for processor speed, amount of hard drive space, amount of RAM, and what video card it has, if you're a gamer. If you aren't a gamer, then all of that, except for the video card.

Three main things:
1. Good processor - An athelon processor that has only 2.7 GHZ would be faster than a pentium that is 3.1 simply because of the make. Just remember pentium is sh!t
2. Good ram - 1024 should do nicely. Try to get 1 stick of 1024 instead of 2 sticks of 512.
3. Good video card - most important thing for a gamer, vital for great graphics. Don't go lower than 128 bytes and ask about the different types.

Well there is processor speed, or just get any computer with new AMD processors.
Then there is virtual memory or (RAM) 512mb is good enough depending on what you will be using the computer for.
Next is Graphics card, this is what displays things on your monitor, now you will atleast want a Nvidia, depending whether you play games or not you will want one with built in cache (L@ cache)
That is basically what you want to look for, and Dell is one of the best computer retailers, they make the best computers and on their website they can tell you exactly what you need and they have a cool feature that allows you to customize your computer to basically every detail.

you should look at the processor speed in Ghz and the processor cache. the FSB speed in Mhz and the RAM speed also in Mhz. If you've got anything like over 3Ghz processor and over 800Mhz FSB and over 533Mhz RAM then your system is ready for a good solid performance. also look at the graphic card memory on the motherboard and if you want you can go for an extra graphic card possibly with a processor of about 300Mhz on the graphic card.
