England should have its own Assembly, if Scotland and Wales do - that's only fair. What a c*ck-up; this needs addressing. What do you think?

I am scottish by birth but have lived in England since I was twelve I am now 73yrs, although I will always be scottish I deplore the divide between English and scottish laws.
I have a grandaughter at university in England
Why does she have to pay for her education when Scottish students don't.
I could go on but I'm sure you get my drift, we are all British.

I'm all for unity. However, I do feel that England needs an independent assembly of it's own to deal with specifically English issues, just as Scotland and Wales have, without the input from other countries. It is, as you say only fair.

I do believe however that we need a centralised government if all countries are to work effectively together. I have no problem whatsoever with being part of a 'United Kingdom'.

The union of parliaments is probably illegal (ab initio) on the basis that bribery was involved.

BUT it seems to have lasted well.

The discovery of oil in the sea off Scotland meant that the UK government would never allow independence until the oil runs out.

Personally, I hope that Scots vote overwhelmingly for the SNP at the next elections. This will mean that all Scots will become foreigners. Thus all Scottish MPs such as G. Brown will HAVE TO leave the English parliament.

In the end, Independence for Scotland will be better for both countries.

I am against Scottish and Welsh MP's voting on English matters, while English MP's have no say in the running of Scotland and Wales. I am English and I wish the Scots and the Welsh well, I am sure they see this as absurd as me. Maybe if we had national identaties we could celebrate St Andrews day, St Georges day and St Davids day. These should be national holidays. Instead we celebrate St Patricks day!. Why don't we just celebrate every other countries holidays instead. How about US independance day or German Reunification day?

`fraid so,this was on the cards when the labour party introduced devolution,it`s not a problem as such but it does rub the English up when they cannot vote on purely English matters, and by not having an English parliament,it gives the impression that there opinion does not matter. Its best with 1 parliament for the whole of Britain, but now the genie is out of the bottle,we have got to have a vote on our own affairs. Also Wales needs a parliament, not an Assembly, then we need a British Parliament,it sounds to me its going to cost a shilling or two

Why does westminster need its own assembly since it controls englans scotland n.ireland wales and other overseas territories.

Ask a learned American, the Socttish and Welsh assemblies have less power than their least indepandant states.

No celebration is made because the people no longer deem it important for the Union to exist in its anniversary. Unity is the only thing important.
