my wife and daughters claim that the water goes cold on them about half way thru a shower , but me and my son have never had this happen to us. i have taken what i concider to be an extra long shower and still nothing, dont want to call the landlord because if it is working when im using the hot water there is no way to find anything wrong with it. if im reading the serial # right i belive that the water heater was made in 1991.

It sounds like the electricalheating elements inside the water heater are about to quit, so notify the landlord and let him change them, since its his responsibility. Do it soon or you just might end up with a cold shower probably on the weekend. Judging by the age of the tank, the elements are jsut about at the end of their life so this is just routine maintenance

Sounds like the heater is NOT the problem, but humans are(lol).
The women MAY shower longer, OR (more likely) wash dishes or use hot
water in another way BEFORE SHOWERING. ALSO, who is complaining --
is it the 2nd or LAST one in line to shower? TRY MAKING A SCHEDULE FOR
WASHING DISHES ETC. AND FOR EACH PERSON'S SHOWER. Discuss the problem openly and fairly over dinner, but be emphatic that you stink more and MUST have the hot water first!

Thats an old water heater.

What you describe is quite possible. If you like a hotter shower then the thermostat is switching at higher temperatures. Your wife and daughters probably use it at lower temperatures.

Thermostats will behave differently over time and maybe not at all at some temperature ranges.

I think the ladies are taking too long in the shower. Water heaters work equally for men and women.......... LOL

Electric water heaters take longer to heat water than gas ones. I guess this could mean that they run out of hot water faster. You could ask your landlord to take a look at it or maybe youcan see if you can turn the water heat up.
