Condoms are the best temporary contraceptive for men while vasectomy is the best permanent solution available to men. Sadly, almost all other forms of contraception are for the women only.

In the U.S., almost half of all pregnancies and a third of live births are unintended.
What's the best way to avoid getting pregnant?
Obviously, never having sex would be 100% effective. But human nature being what it is, real-world efforts at total abstinence are not totally successful.
It's the same story for people who actually intend to have sex. When used perfectly, each contraceptive method can be quite effective. In the real world, each method is much less effective.
The most commonly used contraceptive method is the pill. Over the first year of use, perfect use results in a 0.3% risk of unintended pregnancy. Typical users, however, run an 8% annual risk.
It's true for other forms of birth control as well. For those not trying to get pregnant, here's the first-year risk of unintended pregnancy with various other methods:
Condoms: 2% for perfect use; 15% for typical use.
Periodic abstinence, ovulation based: 1% for perfect use; 25% for typical use.
Periodic abstinence, calendar based: 9% for perfect use; 25% for typical use.
Withdrawal: 4% for perfect use; 27% for typical use.
One-month injectable contraceptive: 0.05% for perfect use; 3% for typical use.
No contraceptive: 85% risk of pregnancy.
The message: If you don't want to get pregnant, and plan to have sex, have a health professional teach you exactly how to use the contraceptive method you choose.

Vasectomy without a doubt, mainly because men are unreliable in their pill taking habits to prevent conception. The hard on dictates (pardon the pun) to the the brain and nothing else is important.
Having a vas is total freedom for the woman and the man!
