Phil Collins did it with Genesis
Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater does some vocal stuff
There was a band in the early 90s called Jellyfish and the drummer was the singer. He played and sang standing up!

It's not as hard as it may seem. I sing backing vocals for my band playing drums. As long as you have the dexterity and limb independence to keep what you are doing separate from the vocals. Good luck.

The Eagles. Maybe you have heard of them. Don Henley was the drummer and also the lead singer. They seemed to have done pretty well for themselves. Also, the Romantics. They sang the song "What I Like About You". There are really no rules as to who can or cannot be the lead singer in a band. It all comes down to who has the most talent. That is for the rest of the band to decide.

There is a bad called Underoath that actually does a good job of this. Drummer is the best out of the band and is also lead singer. They have another dude standing where lead traditionally stands, but he is "lead Screamer"

Well, I've heard that if you sing and play drums it can comprise the quality of a live performance. BUT some bands that have drummers/singers:
Underoath
Atreyu
Motley Crue (although that was kinda just back up...)
Sevendust
Genesis
Hawthorne Heights

It probably makes it a bit harder to engage the audience, because they usually watch the lead singer, and you would be hidden behind a drum kit.
But you could solve that easily enough by moving the drum kit out of its traditional spot at the back of the stage and bringing it forward or something.

Not a prob...Stokely from R&B group Mint Condition is the drummer. Sometimes on the road Chris Dave plays for them while Stokely's on the mic.
