have decided it actually won't destroy the military to allow gay people in? I think it's a little strange being that our troops are stretched so thin already, and there is going to be a huge surge of more troops. I'm not saying they are doing it to sacrifice the homosexual popluation or anything, but I think it's a rather transparent way increase the number of new recruits. I find it very insulting that now that they are desperate they'll let people in. Rude.

Um, did I say something wrong? I'm not sure what Jade S means, but I am not the one saying the army will be destroyed by allowing gay people to serve openly. That is the policy in place. Sorry if I made it sound like I think that.

Dang. And here I was hoping that when the draft was braught back I would be out as soon as I was in because of my sexuality. Guess I'll have to move to Europe instead.

These are just rumors.
I come from military family, so I have always kept a open eye and ear on what happens in it. and every couple years some one brings up the policies involving Gays in the military.
it goes in circles for a little bit, people get excited or angry they talk about it for a few more weeks then it falls to the way side.
Personally I have no problem with the Idea of Homosexuals in thew Military, our history and Cemeteries are full of men and women who sacrificed of them selves for the betterment of this country, any number of them could have been gay. Why shouldn't they be allowed to serve openly.
But I am also a realist, America as a general rule of thumb is not ready for open service.
there are too many old ideas, to many preconceived notions and to much fear of the unknown for the idea to take root.
It may happen eventually.
But it won't happen anytime soon.

I thought the armies always been don't ask don't tell? There was even that MASH episode where they talked about tolerance after Frank tried to have a guy who admitted his sexuality to others given a dishonorable discharge.

It's not weird at all, that's how it works. African-Americans weren't allowed combat roles until they were desperately needed during WW2, but that was seen as progress.

I'm surprised the don't ask, don't tell thing is still legal.
the gov. spends 30 mill a year hunting down "non-heteros" in the armed forces. the policy actually is don't ask, don't tell, don't search. theyre breaching their own regulations everyday.

yep they are just trying to get new recruits or possible trying to keep the ones who say that they are gay just so that they wouldnt go to Iraq

In singapore, even if you are gay or whatsoever, you must complete the national service, coz its the duty of each and every man( or gay) to protect the country . And please don;t say such things, they are only called gay becoz they like men, not bcoz they are dangerous or not clever, or whst, so its wrong to underetimate their intelligence.
