Course you should. She needs to know she still has family that care.
When you lose someone you love, the last thing you want to think about is who are you going to tell, or who needs to know.
When you lose someone you love, and I mean really love, like a family member, you don't want sympathy, you want to know that there are people there for you, to help you get throught this difficult time.
A mother should never have to bury a child. I know that is a cliche but it is true.

Yes Call Her.
And Tell Her In A Smooth Voice:
"Hello This Is (Your Name).
We Just Want To Say That We're Sorry About What Happened. I Hope You'll Take Care. And I Will Pray For You"
Do It Like Catholics

If you can, stop by to give you condolences. If not then call. Everyone knows that condolences do not solve anything or remove the hurt over the loss of a loved one, but it lets the living know that they are not alone in their grief.
On the lighter side, think of condolences as being happy someone is married. Even if you don't want to go to the wedding, you still show your support.

Regardless of past event, in times of need people need helping hands or even a shoulder to cry on. Friends come and go, but family is still family.

It's a times like these that families rally together. It doesn't matter how often you speak when something bad happens you let them know that your thoughts and prayers are with them. If you don't call now how will you ever call again.

Of course - a phone call and a follow-up e-mail would be most welcome. People want to know that other people care. Even if they are lost in a fog of grief right now, they will remember your kindness.
