We can all work a computer, otherwise we wouldn't be addressing this page. we all understand software, and how it is produced but none of this would be possible without the hardware. How does it work?

The best way of understanding how all the various complex parts of a system work is to build your own PC.

Here's how to do that

Ok, your mother board is your heart....your video card, and sound card and disk drives make things work that you put into it, but the software runs the show.....

If the software says that I need (such and such), then your motherboard will ask around to see if you have that....if you don't, then no deal....If you do, then the software will launch its thing and install itself....usually.

Windows is a program that makes computer usage easy......using other programs I'm not so sure about. But, if you introduse some hardware that the software cant' recognize, then you need to run the software that comes with it, ie, like the CD that came in the package with your hardware....

CPU = YOU, the thinker, sitting on your chair
Ram = 1 of your friends, gets you stuff
Harddrive = your cupboard which has all your stuff in it

When YOU want something (the user via the cpu), you ask 1 of your friends (Ram) to go get something, he goes to the cupboard (Harddrive) and brings to you whatever stuff you asked him to get.

UPGRADING YOUR HARDDRIVE: You can buy a bigger cupboard which means you can store more stuff

UPGRADING YOUR RAM: You can get a few more friends which means between them they can get your stuff FASTER

Getting anymore deeper into it means it will no longer be in Layman's terms but in essence, this IS how a computer works. The ram fetches information from the harddrive, the CPU processes that information into something that can be read by the user by sending it to the monitor, speakers or cd-rom (or other device)

the computer has one display monitor and one processor and one key board and mouse and if you can you can use head set

monitor you must be aware and of course key board and mouse too
let us talk about processor or CPU central porcessor unit
the cpu consists of the following
a mother board connected with the following
random access memeory RAM
a processor
and hard disk CD read only memory and a floppy drive
the key board and mouse we connect externally,

whenever we need to make a document file we open up document program and type a letter and save in hard disc as word document
if we want to process some data from the hard disk when we open up the RAM first collect datas from hard disk and open up in monitor for us to work , once finished working when we close it will get saved in hard disk , after we command the save as doc file

this is done of all type of files pictures etc

Computers were never designed to be explained to laymen. If laymen want to know about computers, they should read up on the subject.
