Yes. You most likely deserved it. Dogs don't want you pestering them.

I mean, if thats all you had to protect you, no, I know if I were bit by a strong dog, and all i had to get the dog off was a gun, damn right i'm shooting it. Im not gonna wait for animal control to come save me...Kicking a dog off doesnt always work. Pitbulls for example lock on to what they are biting...

I would be tempted to do the same.

However I would prefer to shoot the dog before being bitten, rather than afterwards.

My aunt was bitten by a big dog and battled for months to recover.

That depends...was the dog like 5 feet tall with a foaming mouth and red eyes? If not then it's most likely animal abuse.
