Step 1: Pick a moderately difficult song.
Step 2: Practice it slowly, very slowly until you make no mistakes.
Step 3: Now, place only the first page of script on the piano, sit down, and be prepared to stay there for a very long time.
Step 4: Play this first page as quickly as possible until you make your first mistake. Be sure to say, out loud, "Hey, No Big Deal". It is vital to verbalize this, it allows you to acknowledge the mistake, yet move by it quickly, and onto the process of correcting that mistake.
Look, the key is practice. You Will get better if you want to. You have been blessed with a talent which few possess

Relax.... everybody mess. I remember a time that I played a difficult piece, very fast ..one mistake and I would start from the begining instead of going to the end... It happened a lot of times, during the rehearsals with my friend, pianist. And I laugh...all the time: "imagine if it happens in the big day!"...
But I tell you: Do you Know how I used to study?
Every day (sometimes twice in a day) I played note by note, very, very slowly... (Once, I was studying and a friend of mine openned the the door and asked me: When is the concert? I can´t listen to you studying like this anymore..." hehehe
So, the big day came and I tell you: NO MISTAKES! I was very proud... and my professor too...
until that day I was a musician like you... asking me if one day I would be able to play perfectly.
Today I know it´s possible for me AND YOU!
Just do your work, easy.. no stress.
And your day will certainly come!!

I don't get to play anymore. I took beginner classes a long time ago and I remember what was holding me back is that I was remembering the song by ear and I was not reading the music. I could learn to play the song real well by ear and when I went in to show my instructor she scolded me so bad (she was a nun) cause she could tell I was not reading. I began to practice not looking at the keys and reading music and it got easier. But then I stopped taking classes and I forgot everything.

practice, and most of all, don't beat yourself up. And by the way, I've been playing piano for 11 years, and I still mess up on simple songs. Why? Because you get so used to playing tough songs, that easy songs seem hard BECAUSE they're easy. You don't focus as much as you usually do, because you EXPECT it to be easy, and so you make mistakes. Good luck!
