Enquiring minds want to know. They do not take anything at face value. They want proof. Scientific evidence. Not just hearsay. Verifiable facts. No superstitions. Everything must have a basis. No mythology like you tell stories to children. Treating others like adults. Independent mind. Curiosity to get at the truth. These are some of the personality traits. Calling them with a label is not fair either. For lack of a better word, you are calling them atheist because they do not subscribe to theological mumbo jumbo.

Hope all this makes sense to you.

Because people do not think through scientific reason. Scientific reason brings us back to the moments of the Big Bang. Scientific reason tells us that matter and energey are interchangeable. Scientific reasoning tels us that you can neither create nor destry matter or energy. Where did all of this matter and energy come from initially? The best answer is whatever "Higher Power" you believe in. It does not matter if you call that "Higher Power" God, Yawhey, Allah, Budda or whatever, but what other explination is their ? Solve that logically and tel me that you ae still an atheist.

i went to a religious school and they could never give me any straight answers to questions, and indeed they started punishing me for asking questions. the more i was punished the more i thought about it and i became an atheist. this was long before i had heard of Darwin or theories like the big bang. it didn't make sense and it didn't feel right. the god of the old testament was cruel and barbarous, then suddenly he was all love and kindness, then we have him wading in rivers of blood and boiling eyeballs out of people's heads. god send his son down to say that we must obey mosaic law, then he tells a complete stranger, Paul that we don't, ( i was as proud as punch with that question and it got me a caning and locked in the chapel all day). so in the end it was not science that turned me into an atheist, but cruel bigots with tunnel vision. sorry i had to add a bit after reading the answer above, search 'quantum vacuum fluctuation' to find out about the strangeness and anti-intuative qualities of existance and non-existance in regards to matter and energy.

"The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians, who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable."
