From what you said the doctor wants to do an MRI. An MRI isn't used to detect a break in the bone. Sounds like he wants to check for tears in your ligament or tendons. This could be worse than a break therefore causing you to still be in pain. Tell him you don't have insurance and are worried about the cost. Maybe he can direct you to someone who could help with that expense. Overall I would say have the MRI done. If its a tear it may need surgery or else it will never heal correctly.

If your ankle is broken you are doing damage to the tendons, ligaments and tissue surrounding it. I would do what the first poster said to do. You'll be better for the long term.

If your bone is broken, you need to have it fixed properly, or it may not heal properly. That's not something you want to mess with, it can affect you physically for the rest of your life. So try to set up a payment plan and get yourself right.

I had fallen on my ankle and it was broken. I didn't seek help because, my mom thought it was a sprain. It was broken alright and I needed a cast and crutches. Just go to the emergency room. They will x-ray it there for you and give you cast, if need be. They can help you out with a payment plan.
