Looking at the answers here I guess a person could own a Tiger or King Cobra and when it attacked the blame could be put on the owner. The fact is that Pitbulls are animals and have no sense of right and wrong, even if you train them. The only thing the owner should take blame for is having the animal to begin with.

Pitbulls are dangerous! If they weren't people (young class less people) wouldn't own them. Why else are they becoming more abundant in certain lifestyles.

Everyone on Dogs knows me and how I feel. I have had first hand experiences with pits. They were neighbors dogs and left to run loose most of the time. They came into MY yard, killed several cats and my little doxie mix, Bandit. Bandit was in our 6' high, redwood fenced in back yard. They killed him in such a brutal way as my cats were torn apart also. They ended up hurting a little girl. If you only blame the owner then explain to me about the young lady who adopted a 9 week old puppy, treated it as her child, only to have it bite her face off 6 years later? She will have several surgeries to try and repair the damage. By the way, she and the dog were laying on a couch watching T.V. when he "snapped". When will people understand they were bred to be just what they are...KILLERS. About the little girl...she was in the Day Care next door where one of the pits lived. Lawsuit anyone? Now, guess who won!!! To answer your question, YES I DO!!! and do not group me into the bunch who HATE pits, I don't hate, I just know they can't be trusted.

Absolutely not, it`s the owners that r dangerous, if the dog was properly trained from an early age, then it shouldn`t be anymore dangerous than any other dog. If the owner wants to make a vicious dog by abuse and neglect, then he should be held responsible for the dogs behavior and not label all Pit bulls as dangerous. Although, I will say Pit bulls should be contained in a fenced yard or kennel until properly trained. No dog should be allowed to roam about at will. There r leash laws.

I go by an old adage, that says "there is no such thing as bad dogs or bad kids, just bad owners or parents". In saying that though, there are instances of aggressive dogs being bred together, and inbred, which can bring out the worst, and has been known to breed unsavoury characteristics into the offspring.

if the owners are so bad how come we don't hear about Lassie chomping on peoples legs? The breed was bred to SCARY and AGGRESSIVE. However if you own one you should be extra good at handling such a "bred to fight" type dog. So you don't have an accident. If you walked up to a strange Black Lab to pet it and you stepped on it's foot too, it probably wouldn't try to bite you like a pit bull would imo

I'd say 90% of the attacks on people are the owners fault. A radio discussion the other week on the subject had a guy who said he had read every book on the subject of pit-bulls and felt confident enough to share with the listeneners that his three year old child feeds his pit-bull scraps of toast from its highchair! I just wanted to scream at the guy for being such an idiot.

No I do not. The Pit Bull's that I have been around within our family are playful, loving and well trained.

It is all in how you train them. Now if you want one to protect whatever you may be dealing, that is where the dangerous ones will be located.

No, its definently the owners. The fact is they are powerful dogs and if you dont show proper dominance and care in handeling and allow the dog to be an aggressive dog then its dangerous.

The same is true for small dogs, however because they are not as powerful you dont hear of as many brutal attacks so they are deemed safe.

Its just not fair to blame the dog or the breed, its all up to the owner.

totally the owners falut. Pitbulls can be good dogs if they are trained right. the only pit that i know is a jerk, but so is the owner. People also need to be more educated when it comes to big dogs like that.
