I know Freeware Palm and Tucows have free (freeware, but they try to force shareware on your palm...) software for palms.

If you want open-source (freeware you can hack without breaking a law) software, PalmOpenSource.Com has a big collection of open-source software.

If I should recommend a freeware game, try Space Trader.
