I am from australia and I am currently going to school in LA. I have been in america for 7 years and I think I lost my australian accent. but just to see if its true, I've uploaded a recording of me reading a paragraph from a magazine in an american accent: to those with an american accent, how close am I?

there's really no such thing as an american accent. travel from CA, to texas, to ohio, to the south, then to NY and NJ. you'll see a HUGE difference in accents all over the country.

where i come from (southern virginia) some people sound more british than southern or "american"

You sound more american then australian, and in fact I could tell that you even had an australian accent! However I do agree with the guy above me when it comes to different accents in america...cause we have the new england, southern draw accents and what ever else comes in between.
