First, you ought to know why marijuana was outlawed in the first place. There were two major reasons. The first was because "All Mexicans are crazy and marijuana is what makes them crazy." The second was the fear that heroin addiction would lead to the use of marijuana -- exactly the opposite of the modern gateway myth.

You can find a summary of the reasons for the marijuana laws, along with links to original sources at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/mj_outlawed.htm

The reason that people think that marijuana grows hair on your palms and other awful things is because the US Government has had an openly admitted campaign of lying about it since the 1930s. Shortly after the laws were passed, the head of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics walked out on a bridge over the Potomac River and saw before him a field of cannabis that stretched as far as the eye could see. He knew then that the marijuana laws were completely unenforceable on his meager million-dollar budget. Therefore, he figured that the only way to deal with it would be to wage a campaign of stupendous lies -- Reefer Madness. You can find a collection of Reefer Madness at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/mags/reefermadness.htm

For example, the US Official Expert on marijuana said that marijuana could make your incisors grow six inches long and drip with blood. He testified in court, under oath, that when he tried marijuana, it turned him into a bat. You can find an excellent short history of the subject at http://druglibrary.org/schaffer/History/whiteb1.htm

There have been numerous major government commissions that have studied marijuana and the laws over the last 100 years. They all said that marijuana was not a significant threat to health. They all said that the marijuana laws were based on racism, ignorance, and nonsense. They all said that there was no good reason that marijuana should be illegal.

You can find the full text of those studies at http://www.druglibrary.org/schaffer/Library/studies/studies.htm These are the definitive works on the subject. The collection includes the largest studies ever done by the governments of the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, and the World Health Organization, just to mention a few. There has never been a major study that reached a different conclusion.

If anyone says that marijuana should be illegal, you know instantly that they have never read the most basic research on the subject.

well my type of question, one it should be legal. point blank. two the truth adds on televison (at least two) had to be pulled off the air because they were incorrectly advertising the adverse effects of the drug, funny thing is im sitting in front of some and it reminds me of the fact that it takes over 50000 times the ammount of thc to get u high to kill u hence it takes u a joint to get high, it takes.... well lets just say you will fall asleep way before you get there plus it is a taxable thing, and if i could walk to the store to pick up a fatty instead of going to the "dopespot" in a bad neighborhood i would in a heartbeat, and my opinion if the government sold it like they do everything else (by the enormous bulk) pot would be rendered useless for street sale cause it would be like a mom and pop shop trying to outsell wallmart

I think marijuana and all drugs that are currently illegal should be legalized and sold at Wal-Mart....hehe. I think the government should tax the crap out of them and require you to be 21 to buy them, just like alcohol. That way, we can control the quality of the product - keeping it free of contamination from stuff like oh, Dran-O, for example, and make a profit to kick our national debt in the space of a year.

I think it should be legalized, I don`t use it or any or street drugs, but it can`t be worse or anymore damaging than alcohol and alcohol is legal. BUT, I feel an age limit should be set, not sold to anyone under 21.

There is no doubt that grass can help certain sicknesses and ills from too many drugs and medical cures; however, grass can also cause mental breakdowns by affecting the brain. It is, therefore, dangerous, but so is booze which can cause cirrhosis of the liver.

Legalize it absolutely. So easy to grow a ten year old can do it. No market no Crime. Spend the money we save on Pot eradication/criminal prosecution on hard drugs.

Ever hear of a pot head robbing a bank for a joint?

I have asked that on here twice every last person said yes lets legalize it. so whats the problem? the legislators wont admit they smoked it or support legalizing it because they think they wont get reelected, Carter said he wonted to legalize it. R eagan said it should be legalized. so lets legalize . damn nation Y'all its about time, it ways past time it ridiculous to keep it illegal. its wont be legilized till people demand it. the people who smoke it are afraid .to stand up and be counted.the people who have smoked it wont admit it.in public.so it will be a stupid law way into the future.Peace. pray for peace in this world. please.

AH HELL NO.

You seen how many terrible drivers already on the road? You want more?????

At least they're having to "tone it down" now. Legalizing would create more idiocity. Believe me, I've smoked A LOT.

Vote NO to more idiocity.

No.

It should be legalized. I do not smoke it, but we need the tax dollars of California's number one cash crop. Plus it is not worse than cigarettes or alcohol.

should be legalized, why? doesn't matter what the government say, people are still gonna use. cigs, alcohol are legal, why not weed? it's natural, plus they're legal in the Netherlands, and the citizens there are okay. so what's the big deal? it's your choice if you wanna use it or not.
