I am looking for an Asian country such as Japan to teach in as I have many Japanese friends and am interested in the culture.

Please enlighten me if yourself or someone you know has taught overseas and/ or places I can go to find more information about this.

Avoid teaching English in China. You will be spied on, and in many cases you won't be paid the money you were promised.

Don't believe the money that is promised on internet websites.

I have taught English overseas in Korea for the past three years. I've had both good and bad experiences. Some of the hagwon owners in Korea will rape you blind, so you have to be really careful in terms of the school (and recruiter for that matter) and do research.

Many times you'll end up finding a job through a recruiter. Don't let them pressure you into taking the first thing they offer. If you get a recruiter like that, tell them to go to hell and don't use them.

I'm now working at a public elementary school and very happy with my situation. This summer I'm leaving to go back home with my wife (who is Korean).

No, you do not have to understand the local language (your whole lecture room time must be in English). But you do want a measure and a TEFL certificates for so much areas. If you choose China you'll be in a position to break out with no measure for a few areas however you're going to want a TEFL certificates to support get the activity. Once you are certified, scour the web for jobs there. There are lots approximately and it may not be a drawback.

I teach in Taiwan, but in an accredited international school, not a private English school.
First, you need to have a BA.
Then, do HEAVY research on the school and area you want to live in. Oftentimes private schools don't stick to their contracts and end up taking advantage of foreign teachers.
Check out eslcafe.com for more info, as far as I know, it is the most legit and widely known website for foreign teachers.

id' recommend definintely checking out this website - http://www.daveseslcafe.com/ - also, i agree with one of the other answerers - do heavy research and try and get in touch with someone who has taught in the program/school that you are interested in.
