Imperialism means the policy or practice of extending a state's rule over other territories. This definition can be expanded to any instance of aggressive behaviour by one state against another.

Among other deeds the United States backed the 2002 coup in Venezuela. Hence the allegation is accurate. He also refers to US Cuban policy which is literally imperialist by nominating a governor for a conquered Cuba.

The UN Charter and various other treaties prohibit or denounce the practice of imperialism. Respect for sovereignity and denouncement of imperialism is the primary goal of NAM which comprises over 50% of the world's nations.

Hopefully we can get some leadership in power that have the ability to utilize logic instead of talking points. Chavez is using the United States as a way of misdirecting the real issues that Venezuela have to deal with.

I think Chavez wants the US stop a behavior described by him as Imperialism.

It would be an escalation to raise this up beyond this point.

Chavez is an interesting character...he puts me in mind of the Iranian president and North Korea's leader....both pretty much nuts......I believe Chavez called Bush the "Devil"...and though I don't see Bush as a good president...I don't quite see him as Satan.......just a bad president with just as bad a congress behind him...

Chavez uses the term imperialism for sensationalism...he doesn't like the US nor its policies....but instead of stating a straight forward approach to his disapprovals.... he talks out his **** to appeal to the ignorant masses......which makes him look like an idiot or fool ,which ever you choose, instead of a leader of a nation....

at least with Chavez ,the Iranian president,and Korea's illustrious leader....the world can't say America cornered the market on idiots in power..........

He believes that US corporations have taken the natural wealth of his country and not properly paid the Venezuelan people. In his world, the CIA deposes of governments that don't let US business do as it wills. He publicly claims that he has had numerous assassination attempts.

All the evils in the world are blamed on his boogeyman . . . the USA. It allows him to stay in power if the people of venezuela view him as a patriot instead of the reason for their poverty.

He clearly opposes US policy and actions, so he labels US actions and policy as imperialism. The "Death to US imperialism" is him continuing his policy of being a thorn in the US's agenda world-wide.

Hello =)

With the exception of a 20 year attempt with the State of Liberia, the US has never been an imperialist state.

Venezuela is more "imperialistic" than we are at this point in time.

His "imperialism" speeches are just typical anti-american nonsense.

The only country I can think of that honestly deserves the title "Imperialistic" is the UK, and then, only as "Empire Emeritus"....LOL

Namaste,

--Tom
