It may solve the problems that are found in inner citys.
Can you imagine a hoody telling a soldier built like a brick sh1t house to f off?
It may teach diciplin to these people, setting them up for a better life also.

I think when kids leave school they should have the option of college, and as long as they attend they should be exempt. All other kids should have to do national service. It didnt do our dads/grandads any harm.

I'm 24 and leave for the Army in under 3 weeks. It is the best thing for yobs to be taught they are can't do sweet Fanny Adams all day. these kids leave school at 16 and just doss their lives away i've seen it. my mates do it. if they were forced to join up it will turn them into resposible young adults, with a sence of purpose rather than terrorising the neighboorhood and going to prison.

I do think we could bring in some kind of program for young offenders rather than prison but National Service was designed to train soldiers for war. Good discipline and respect was a side effect.
I also think every teenager should be able to go on a week long camp away from school.

I strongly agree with bringing back National Service. When National Service was around before did kids disrespect people as they do now? Kids/Teens/Juveniles/Adults, all the same, bring back National Service and teach people to have respect once again.

It sounds good, however there needs to be the infrastructure to support them when they leave. It will be of no consilation to some little old granny to know that the bloke who mugged her learnt his headlock technique in the armed forces.
We can start disciplining kids earlier, that would be a good start. Kids have got away with too much nowadays before school leaving age.

Yes I think also they should bring back caning in school no questions asked, and the parents should be forced to except there childs punishment. As for national service it should only be for the trouble makers, which if they had been caned at school we shouldn`t have very many.

It would certainly help alot of people. There are alot of well mannered youngsters out there though unfortunately there are those who spoil it for others. I actually think that some parents are to blame.Or maybe society in general has played a major role in the way things are

who participates in national service? everyone?
I think the ones who are identified as a pain in the *** to society should be sent away to do national service, but theres a lot of people out there who are not built to do this sort of thing and there would be no need as its the minority steadily becoming the majority that need sorting.

yes definately. maybe not the original 2 years. but one year. and it should start when they leave school. girls as well, in this age of equality. the uk would be a far better place. another interesting observation would be to see if any particular people or groups would refuse as did the conscientous objectors of yesteryear
