Humpty was blown off...

Humpty Dumpty was a powerful cannon during the English Civil War. It was mounted on top of the St Mary's at the Wall Church in Colchester defending the city against siege in the summer of 1648. Although Colchester was a Royalist stronghold, it was besieged by the Roundheads for 11 weeks before finally falling. The church tower was hit by enemy cannon fire and the top of the tower was blown off, sending "Humpty" tumbling to the ground. Naturally all the King's horses and all the King's men (Royalist cavalry and infantry respectively) tried to mend "him" but in vain.

well thats possible...but really if you looked like Humpty all rolly and round...would you go sit on a wall where it might be precarious...balancing would be a challenge for the likes of Humpty...so I think perhaps he made a poor decision to get up there...and why did he go up there anyway?

first off the nursery rhyme got it wrong....humpty dumpty was not an egg...it was a cannon. so unless you still believe in the nursery rhyme, you're just plain weird to not look it up yourself.

It's possible, but real unlikely. He was a confirmed alcoholic, and had been on a 72 hour bender, when he took that famous fall. That part of the story is often omitted, but it's true, rest assured.

No. The wall was really high and no one could reach him without climbing up themselves. If there was someone else on the wall it would be in the pictures.

interesting question.

if he were pushed, who was he pushed by? all we know is that he sat on the wall, we don't know if there was anyone with him at the time. this would make a great mystery novel... lol
