She first became famous and known for being an heiress. But she actually does more than just party all the time. She has her own fashion line which is really big in Japan. She has movies out and Fox approached her to do the Simple Life.

Paris Hilton is the daughter of Richard Hilton, this is the first fame factor, in the beginning of 2001 she started building a rep as the "New York's it girl".
1 week prior to the premiere of "The simple life" her now famous sex video was released on the Internet. This fired the real buzz, but she had most probably been a celeb without it.

She's famous because she is an heiress, but mostly because she has no morals and is willing to whore herself out to the highest bidder. Would anyone take notice of her if she were an uggo? Really, think about it. Rich (on daddy's efforts), pretty (silicone, fake tans, etc), and slutty (no explanation necessary). I'm sure she has some business sense, but even that can be bought. So I am just as stumped as to why people are so interested in her.

she was born into being rich, and has created a reputaion of being a person who knows where the good parties are. then the sex tape came out, which made her more famous. then sadly, she got her own tv show, the simple life, which has at least three seasons. but to answer your question, she did nothing but party and have sex.
