Where is Kranji War Cemetery & Memorial?
It is located at the North area of Singapore called Kranji. It is a cemetery for former military men who protected Singapore during WW-II. You can bring digicam for photo-taking but silence & solemnence is observed at all times, in respect to the dead.

Amazing fact 1: Our former 2nd President of the Republic of Singapore, Dr. Benjamin Henry Sheares, started service on 2 January 1971 to 12 May 1981, is resting at the grounds of Kranji War Memorial and is found at the right side of the entrance, on a big patch of ground. Another former national leader, Mr. Encik Yusof bin Ishak, 1st President of the Republic of Singapore, started service on 9 August 1965 to 23 November 1970, is also resting on the same cemetery and is found at the other side of the memorial area. Visit http://www.istana.gov.sg/FormerPresidents/index.htm for more details.

Amazing fact 2: To honour and commemorate all those who sacrificed their lives, this annual Dedication Service will be conducted at dawn at the Kranji War Memorial where most of the fallen are buried.

Background History:
Kranji War Memorial honours the men from Britain, Australia, Canada, Sri Lanka, India, Malaya, the Netherlands and New Zealand who gave their lives for freedom in World War II.

Marked graves of 4,000 servicemen who died during the Japanese Occupation stand in neat rows on manicured lawns. Another 24,000 names of soldiers and airforce men who died but whose bodies were never recovered are inscribed on 12 columns.

Kranji War Cemetery began as a hospital burial ground during the Japanese Occupation and became a military cemetery after the war. Bodies of servicemen buried in other parts of Singapore were exhumed and reburied here. The area is also the burial grounds of Singapore's first 2 presidents.

From Kranji MRT Station, you're taking the MRT that head in direction of Marina Bay and also you stop at city hall Station. Upon alighting at city hall Station, basically walk immediately to board the practice that head in direction of Pasir Ris and also you alight at Tanan Merah. And from there, you board a practice (contained in the middle platform) that heads in direction of Changi Airport. although, you could take the MRT that head in direction of Jurong East and from there, you could also take the practice that heads in direction of Pasir Ris.
