I currently live downtown in a fairly clean, fairly safe mid-size city. I would rather be in the middle of the mountains somewhere, with nobody around for 10 miles. Peace and quiet and solitude, that's why. But, until my health improves, I'm stuck. Having lived in places like L.A., Denver, Chicago, etc. I am in a very nice place for this part of my journey in life. Very interesting question, shows a lot of thought.

Downtown. I love the people everywhere.... the hustle and bustle, the shops, the coffee, the foot traffic.... I love the whole mess of it all. I am so bored by the suburbs - they all look the same to me. Good ole' Generica, complete with white picket fences and carbon copy houses. The city tends to be a little more eclectic... a little more willing to grow, change, and transform itself. I love the odd angles of the houses, the bricks, the fact that every street looks different. I'd rather see a vibrant city than a vibrant suburb... and where I live, things are beginning to head in that direction. It's exciting!
Currently, I live in (gasp) suburban St. Louis, Missouri. I plan to move to the city, though.
Good question!

I've lived in inner Auckland and I loved it. The house was older (like 100 years old). I live in Suburbs Sydney now and I like it because I get to drive further to work than I would otherwise. And I like driving. Also the house is newer which is cool for a change. I like being close to main roads though so I don't have to turn 10 corners every time I come home.

I don't live in any metro area, I live in a very rural area in Southern West Virginia, my nearest neighbor is about a mile away, I love it here, and I would not live anywhere else. I have been to every state in the Union, and parts of Europe. This area may be poor, and the majority of the populace with a poor education, but you will not find better people. Except maybe in Scotland, god bless the Scots.

That's only true in some American cities, however. Manhattan and San Francisco certainly does not need "re-vitalizing", they're doing just fine attracting businesses and wealthy people, thank you very much. I think density matters if you want a lively city center. The more mix-used developments and highrises you can squeeze in, the better. But then, urban planners like Jane Jacobs have been saying this for over 40 years, and the government still doesn't get it.

Way out. I have lived in San Francisco-- nice
I now live on a couple of acres in the country. Much nicer and about an hour from SF. Miss the closeness of the city. But really love the elbow room I have now and my view is awesome. So are the deer in my yard and the fruit trees and the parking!!

I live in a suburb and it is a small town.My town is very quiet and the people around me are very wealthy. We do not have any factory except we live near Computer companies. Our live are simple and peaceful. By the way, the weather is very nice. There are many restaurants and a medium shopping mall around and everything are so convenient except the cost of living is extremely high.

None of the above! We live outside one of Alaska's major cities, but we have five acres. Not as much as I'd like, but it's a great location. We see moose, porcupines, fox, rabbits, ravens, eagles, hawks, owls.....all on a very regular basis, right in our yard. Wouldn't trade it for anything.
The weather is just population control - keeps a lot of people out.
Have a nice night!

In the country, It is by far the best, for me anyways,
14 acres of forest, solitude it's the only way to go.
No traffic, no neighbors, on the end of a dead end road.
I WILL NEVER MOVE.
I live in the Northwoods of one of the "Politically Blue" Great Lakes State.
