I think it's HILARIOUS that you have to PAY to file for BANKRUPTCY.....isn't that like an oxymoron or something? Or maybe just highway robbery!

There are situations when bankruptcy is your only choice so none of us should judge you. It should be a last resort however. If you have thousands and thousands of dollars with multiple creditors it's only fair that you more pay for the service because of the amount of time that will be invested in the paperwork on your behalf. It's not wise to file without an attorney. Bankruptcy is a legal process and you want it done right. To pay $1200 for $5000 of debt is ridiculous but $1200 for $40,000+ seems worthwhile. Shop around for a bankruptcy attorney not only by price but by qualifications. You might be able to get it done less expensively but in some cases you get what you pay for. Consider also how available the attorney will make themselves for you for questions, court dates, etc.

Avoid filing if at all possible. Tell creditors your seriously considering it and they may cut you break on what you
owe.
$500.00 USD. how ever if I had to do it again I would fill out the forms myself and pay a lawyer $50 to stick around for another sitting with the BR judge.
Is $1200 too much? how complicated is your bankruptcy? Trying to hold on to assets? Will your lawyer represent and react if a creditor decides to get garnishment prior to the bankruptcy?
Sounds stupid but it is a trick they pull (although illegal) by the time you have it released they have there money.

that price sounds about right, when i was thinking about going the BK route i was looking at 2grand plus. you may want to see if you can do a debt consolidaion, BK will follow you for the rest of your life. it may come off of your cred rept after 7 years but if you file for a loan on a house or car and on the app it says have you ever filed for BK you have to say yes, its a felonie to say no. you may want to see if you can file for chpt 13 instead of chpt 7 that won't hurt your credit as much. anyone offering a price lower then a grand either is new, a scam or wont' do it correctly, BK fees, lawyer fees, paper preparation fees and what not cost alot dont go with someone cheaper unless you know they won't stiff ya. also bring all your debt to them even the 200 gas card or the 150 phone bill, any debt that you have you need to give them cause they only will file what you give them its not there job to find what debt you have. good luck

DON'T FILE!!!!! If you think your finances are bad now, they will be worse and for a much longer period of time. The fee is generally set by the state you are in, about $1,000.00
Been there, done that--won't ever do it again

you don have to pay.. your credit score will pay for it as it will plunge to the ground and it will cost you alot when u borrow from banks or loans along the 15 coming years (of bad credit, and credit score).. just think twice before filing bankruptcy..
and again it shouldn't cost u dime.. u can file it by ur self.

if it's going to cost that much to file, why not take that money and pay your bills with it?
