I seem to hop from one extreme to the other. I am 28 and sometimes seem so certain and then other times things get so twisted and mind-boggling I do not know whether I'm coming or going let alone who I am and to what or where I'm headed. When I look within myself I know that the answer is most definitely optimistic and yet when I look beyond me, experience and interact with the world outside and around self I am overwhelmed by a strange sense of foreboding which leads to pessimism based on what I see and hear. It seems a constant battle between unquantifiable odds but I know I must project the optimism within me upon the world around me to maintain purpose. All that said though, I am confidently optimistic because there is a spiritual undercurrent sweeping the world today. We are gaining individual awareness which once balanced to include and not exclude all other beings will take us to a different level where mind has power over matter. When pessimism threatens I make a conscious choice to remain optimistic which is the reflection of my true self.

My answer is both yes and no. I am 54.Yes because with the current trend of the development of technology we are going so fast in this century. Many things going high tech and we are all amazed of what is happening. In almost every field especially electronics, medicine, science, we have advanced a lot and we are all enjoying being part of these. But on the other hand, our way of living have also change. Children these days are less sociable as they can have fun by their own within the confines of their home. Having the DVD movies, CD music, MP3 players. Nintendo games, chatting or making friends over the Internet, etc. what else would they look for. Twenty years ago children would go out of the house to find some friends so they could play and socialize. Now comaraderie within the home or neighbors are slowly fading. This is a sad fact.
Also nowadays, couples are having less and less children. This is because it has become more difficult to raise children these days because of the high cost of living . Parents also have better option on the number of children than before. With less children, who then will take care of the growing number of old people.
Another thing to be pessimistic is our global warming. If the rate of our CO2 production goes unabated, sure those polar caps in the north and south pole will melt . The ozone layer of the earth has grown too thin so that heat coming from the sun easily penetrates to the earth. Governments has not done enough to control CO2 production. So eventually I guess we are heading towards our own destruction.
I guess this is just unavoidable because there are just too many people on earth (6 billion) that no matter how we try to stop it, sometimes people just want to have fun and survive. Anyway, we are all in it.

optimistic or pessimistic about the future, about my future or mankinds future. my future yes im optimistic im 40 years old. already paid for my house know how to grow food and take care of my well being. but for the future of mankind i dont have much hope for. people are a parasite on this planet that is destroying the basic essence of life. wether it be the water or our air or the soil it self we are raping this planet and it will only get worse as our population grows, all great civilizations grow then they die off. just look at mankinds history for that. our world has become to small for part of mankind having everything and other people not even having the basics of survival. How do you think wars are started people are just like rats in a cage, when that cage gets to small what happens to the rats.

I'm optimistic. The continuing advance of technology will continue to improve our lifes, especially if various political problems restricting its use can be solved. (Genetically engineered crops is what I have in mind here.) But religion is a major threat to stability -- consider Iraq, Iran, Kashmir, Palestine, the Balkans, and on and on. The race has survived these some millions of years through intelligence, and that is still the best attribute for survival that evolution has ever produced. (I'm a senior citizen.)

I guess that makes 60 prehistoric, haha.
for what it's worth, am pessimistic. based on our history and today's love affair with the 'buck', we don't stand a chance.
we are a blight on the planet and 'will disappear through war, pollution, or a combination of both. our big daddys will never put 'someone else's life' above the dollar, and those who want more are looking at ways to survive nuclear conflict so that they can cash in on monies to be made in the arms industry [and then survive].
it is strange, but no matter what age we get to, we seem to look at ourselves as being virtually indistructable. we're not. we're here for a blink of an eye and gone. with all that pollution, we might soon not be able to blink that eye. then, well, we're done.

My age is 39. I am optimistic. That's the reason why I am working day and night to have come my dreams true. I know I am going to achieve what I want one day. I think everyone on this planet is optimistic. Thats why everyone is running after his goal, maybe its success, moneymaking, marriage, anything.
