Next week I will be 21. So far, no B-day of mine stands out as my favorite and I just want to know what makes your birthday special to you.

My most recent birthday - age 60. I had always dreaded 60, but four years ago I was diagnosed with cancer, had two major cancer surgeries and chemo, and really didn't think I would make it to 60. So I'm grateful to still be here enjoying life.

I think every year should be the best ever.

On my 21st, I purchased my first bottles of liquor in the U.S. and had a huge party, college friends, high school buddies, and friends from grade school whom I haven't seen for years. I didn't drink much before I was 21, only outside of the U.S. where it was legal. My first task was to have a shot with the first 21 people who arrived. It was a blast. Maybe not the most special, but certainly the most memorable. Although I still can't remember about 2 hours of that night, drunk out of my mind.

My 20th was very nice. I threw a party for myself and all my college friends came and we had a great time together. It was just... tons of fun. My Mom sent me a great book and some flowers.

These days I'm a working Mom, so I always take the day off and play hookey. I think this year I'll do a spa day.

My 16th birthday was the most special because that was the last time my twin brother and I had a birthday party. Our birthday is on Halloween, so we had the typical, teenage dance party, along with special contests and treats.

30th. My husband planned a surprise party for me and invited some friends I hadn't seen in a long time. I had been freaking out about turning 30 and it turned out to be the start of a great year for me!

My 18th was the most special but it was bittersweet. I hated becoming an adult but that was the day that made me realize how much people cared about me.
