Doesn't matter if they do, it is already a stalemate between the two countries. Americans will still have better lives than the average Chinese person whether or not their economy surpasses the American economy. America will continue to enforce its foreign policy as it sees fit and China will continue to push theirs, but one can always stop the other at any time if they feel the need to do so. Each country lets the other do things that it doesn't like because the 2 countries are highly dependent on the other to do well.
