If you do not chart or monitor your fertility in any way, and you think you may have conceived, you should wait 19 days (or longer) after having sex to test. Why 19?! Sperm can live approximately 5 days in the proper environment; if the sperm managed to live until you popped an egg, the actual conception could have taken place several days after the sex act that got the sperm there. To make sure you're not testing too early, assume the sperm had very long lives (5 days is considered a very long sperm life) and that conception occurred then. Then allow 14 days for the embryo to implant and develop enough hCG to show up on a pregnancy test (96% of pregnant women will test positive by then.)

I'd wait until at least a day after you miss your period. Sure some tests say up to 5 days before, but there's no need to do it. Give your body time to produce enough pregnancy hormones to get a more accurate response. The day you have sex doesn't matter as much as whether you are late for your period or not.

Take a test a few days after missed period. Their are tests that you can test earlier on but these can give a false negitive which can be upsetting or they can show such a faint positive line that you spend a week questioning it before you can test again.
Good luck.

if your period is late, take it a week after it should have been here.
trying to take it any other time will just be a waste--the 13th was 3 days ago.

there are pregnancy test that can detect whether you are pregnant 5 days before your missed period. get one of those, and test a few days before your period, or wait and see if your period comes.
